The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) Outreach Programme

BIS is the UK government department with responsibility for driving balanced and sustainable growth. In delivering this growth we want to ensure that our stakeholders – organisations and businesses which our policies interest or affect – are involved as much as possible in developing our policies.

Because of that, we are introducing a programme to build relationships and enhance our understanding of our key stakeholders and their issues. We would like to invite you to take part in the programme.

What does the BIS Outreach Programme involve?

BIS staff will visit your organisation for one to two days to learn about how you operate, the challenges you face and your views on government policy. You can agree with the civil servant in advance about how you want the placement to run.

What's in it for me?

As well as making sure your views are reflected in future policy, the programme provides you with:

  • A government perspective on your organisation
  • Help with government-related issues you face
  • A contact in central government, should you face problems or need advice in future
  • A specialist insight into organisational operations from a BIS civil servant
  • An opportunity to use an additional expert resource - you can put the civil servant to use in your organisation wherever you see fit
  • An opportunity to discuss BIS's policies with the people responsible for producing them.

We are keen to find placements across the full range of BIS stakeholders, including:

  • Businesses of any size and across sectors – from multinationals to microbusinesses
  • Universities
  • Further Education colleges
  • Research Councils
  • Social enterprises
  • Regulators
  • Charities/ 3rd Sector organisations

How do I register interest in taking part?

Please complete the short placement specification form and return to outreach@bis.gsi.gov.uk. We will be in contact to arrange visits once BIS staff have had the opportunity to view potential placements.
